Howard's Folly Wine

About the estate

The Howard's Folly Wine estate originates in the high-altitude region of Portalegre in the Alentejo, where cooler climates allow grapes to mature slowly. The project was founded in 2005 by Howard Bilton and winemaker David Baverstock to combine the character of the Portuguese terroir with an international vision. Based in a historic building in Estremoz, the winery uses smaller tanks to vinify separate batches for reserve and premium styles. A distinctive feature of the enterprise is its art-inspired labels, many of which are designed by winners of the Sovereign Art Foundation or world-famous artists.

The eno directory lists 23 wines, mostly from Syrah and Touriga Nacional. The estate sells to distributors, importers and horeca. Export markets include Belgium, Georgia, United Kingdom and Germany.
