About the estate
The Carlo Schmitt winery is run as a third-generation family business on the Mosel and cultivates 1.5 hectares of vineyards. Founded in the 1970s, the estate relies on very old, partly ungrafted vines in renowned sites such as Herrenberg, Rosengärtchen, Laurentiuslay, Bruderschaft, Altärchen, and Klostergarten. The soils are characterized by slate, loam, loess, and quartzite, while vineyard management is carried out with a natural and meticulous approach. In the cellar, gentle and natural methods such as spontaneous fermentation and extended yeast contact are employed to produce fruit-forward, mineral-driven wines that reflect their origin.
The eno directory lists 8 wines, mostly from Riesling and Müller-Thurgau.
