About the estate

The Shelter Winery estate was founded in 2003 by Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf, who realized their own winemaking vision following studies in Geisenheim and international experience. After initially starting in Lahr, the winery moved into a new building in Kenzingen in the Baden region in 2010. The vineyards located in Kenzingen, Malterdingen, and Bombach are meticulously tended by hand, featuring low yields and the use of the Lyra training system. Harvested grapes are processed with utmost care, avoiding pumps and filters for the red wines, which mature in traditional wooden vats and barriques. The portfolio includes Pinot Noir and Spätburgunder alongside Chardonnay, Rosé de Noir, and a Sparkling brut.
