About the estate
The Lyrarakis Wines – GEA SA estate was established in 1966 on the island of Crete by brothers Manolis and Sotiris Lyrarakis and is currently managed by the second generation. The winery is dedicated to the revival of rare local grape varieties and maintains a portfolio featuring more than eleven indigenous varieties, including rescued varieties such as Dafni, Plyto, and Melissaki. The vineyards span various terroirs and have increasingly adapted to climate change through shifts to higher altitudes. In 2020, the estate transitioned to organic viticulture and implements regenerative practices, such as avoiding ploughing and using proprietary organic fertilizers. The production focuses on wines with distinctive character under the Crete PGI denomination.
