About the estate

Founded in 1659, the Fürstlich Castell’sche Domänenamt estate in Franconia cultivates vineyards that are significantly shaped by the mineral-rich gypsum keuper soils of the Steigerwald. The core focus of the winery is the Silvaner grape variety, whose wines are characterized by remarkable longevity and exceptional aging potential. Among the estate's most notable sites are the monopole vineyard Casteller Schlossberg as well as the Hohnart, Kugelspiel, and Trautberg sites. Winemaking is preceded by consistently nature-conscious vineyard management. Additionally, the family operates its own forestry, using oak wood from local trees for the traditional production of wooden barrels.
