Domaine des Varinelles

About the estate

Established in 1890 in Varrains, the Domaine des Varinelles is currently managed by the fifth generation of the family. The estate played a pivotal role in regional winemaking history when the family helped create the Saumur-Champigny appellation in 1957. Today, the winery spans 43 hectares of vineyards across notable sites such as Les Poyeux, Le Bourg, and La Butte de Saumoussay. In 2011, the estate initiated its conversion to organic farming to preserve biodiversity and respect the clay-limestone soils. The wines are aged within extensive historic tuffeau cellars carved into the rock of the Loire Valley.
