About the estate
The Castel San Mauro estate is situated in the northeastern hills of Gorizia in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, covering a total area of 25 hectares with 6.5 hectares under vine. The vineyards occupy a sunny hillside location between the woods of Mount Sabotino and the Isonzo gorge on soils composed of marl and sandstone, locally known as Ponca. Under the guidance of Manuele Mauri and his team, the winery practices biodynamic agriculture with rigorous training systems and high planting densities. Older vines exceeding sixty years provide the scions for new plantings, and harvesting is conducted entirely by hand in small crates. The resulting wines, falling under the Collio DOC denomination, are crafted with methods that include a patented marble vinification vessel known as NOE.
The eno directory lists 3 wines, mostly from Ribolla Gialla and Chardonnay.
