About the estate
The Schloss Johannisberg estate looks back on a 1200-year history of winemaking and has cultivated exclusively Riesling since 1720. The vineyards cover 50 hectares on a south-facing quartzite hill in the Rheingau with a slope gradient of 45 degrees. The vineyard lies directly on the 50th parallel, which, combined with the surrounding castle forest, creates ideal conditions for ripening. For the maturation of the wines, the winery traditionally uses oak wood sourced from its own forest. In the historic underground cellar, known as the Bibliotheca Subterranea, numerous valuable rarities from past centuries are stored.
The eno directory lists 14 wines, mostly from Riesling.
