About the estate
Located in Mautern an der Donau in the Wachau region, the Nikolaihof Wachau estate looks back on a history spanning around two thousand years and is considered the oldest winery in Austria. Across 22 hectares of vineyards, the estate primarily cultivates Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. Farming has followed strict biodynamic Demeter guidelines since 1971, avoiding the use of herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or synthetic sprays. Owned by the Saahs family since 1894, the wines ferment on their own yeasts and age in large, old oak casks within the historic Roman wine cellar.
