About the estate

The Swiss winery Keller zur Grotte, located in Varen in the Valais, was originally founded in 1965 by Albert Plaschy and was later converted into a limited liability company in 1998. Today, the family-run estate is managed in the second generation by the two brothers Gilbert and Albert Loretan, with Gabriel Roten acting as cellar master. Situated amidst the vineyards of Varen within old walls, the estate produces a wide range of wines marketed under the AOC Valais denomination. The region is characterised by over three hundred days of sunshine per year, the foehn wind, mineral-rich soils and an altitude ranging from 500 to 800 metres. Working in harmony with nature, the winemakers tend the vines by hand, carry out a careful harvest and allow the wine the necessary time to mature during vinification.

The eno directory lists 16 wines, mostly from Pinot Noir and Cornalin.
