Herdade da Maroteira

About the estate

The Herdade da Maroteira estate is located in the foothills of the Serra D’Ossa in Alentejo and has belonged to the same Anglo-Portuguese family since the 19th century. In 2000, current owner Philip Mollet revolutionised the farm strategy by planting vineyards covering 22 hectares with grape varieties such as Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonêz and Touriga Nacional. From selected handpicked grapes, the estate produces a selection of red, white and rosé wines, including the Syrah wine Cem Reis. Alongside winemaking, the property is characterised by cork oak forests, livestock farming and traditional seasonal agricultural activities.

The eno directory lists 9 wines, mostly from Syrah and Touriga Nacional. Export markets include Austria, Belgium, Croatia and Czechia.
