About the estate

The Gerald Unger winery is based in Deutsch Schützen-Eisenberg in southern Burgenland and is run as a family tradition. After traveling the world, Gerald Unger returned to his home region in 1992, completed training as a viticulturist and cellar master as well as at the Rust Wine Academy, and took over the parental estate from Franz and Maria Unger. The vineyards benefit from a warm Pannonian climate, cooler nights, and heavy, iron-rich soils on schist bedrock with a thick layer of loam. These conditions produce regionally typical quality wines and sparkling wines, including wines of the Eisenberg DAC denomination, which are characterized by a distinct minerality.
