About the estate

The Mertes estate is located in the Mosel region and is managed across generations by Manfred and Mathias Mertes. The winery places great emphasis on close-to-nature cultivation, sustainability, and preserving the natural freshness of the wines grown on weathered slate soils. Alongside traditional varieties such as Riesling, the portfolio includes Pinot varieties as well as newer plantings of PIWI grapes and southern varieties such as Chardonnay and Merlot. Harvesting is carried out manually or mechanically depending on the vineyard site, followed by gentle pressing and modern cellar techniques such as crossflow filtration. In addition to still white, rosé, and red wines, the winery also produces sparkling wines using the traditional method.
