About the estate

The Staatsweingut Freiburg estate was founded in 1842 by the Blankenhorn brothers and is today an institution of the State Viticultural Institute Freiburg, affiliated with the Ministry of Rural Area and Consumer Protection of Baden-Württemberg. The winery cultivates over 37 hectares of vineyards in historical sites at the Kaiserstuhl in Ihringen-Blankenhornsberg as well as in Freiburg and Ebringen. The portfolio includes Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat, and Auxerrois. The wines mature on volcanic weathering soils, loess, and gneiss weathering soils. The estate combines traditional viticulture with scientific research and is a member of the VDP association of German prädikat wine estates.

The eno directory lists 19 wines, mostly from Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The estate sells to retail.
