About the estate

The Quinta do Bomfim estate is part of the family-run company Symington Family Estates, which has lived and worked in the Douro Valley of Portugal since the 19th century and is managed by the fourth and fifth generations. The traditional property manages a portion of the company's total 2,255 hectares of vineyards located across the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Douro. The steep, schistous hillside vineyards are predominantly planted with indigenous grape varieties and much of the work continues to be done by hand. Furthermore, the estate hosts a significant library of native grape varieties as part of ongoing research projects aimed at preserving the region's viticultural heritage and adapting to climate change.
