About the estate

The Quinta de Soalheiro estate has its origins in 1974, when João António Cerdeira planted the first continuous Alvarinho vineyard in Melgaço with the help of his family. The winery is located in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, the northernmost territory of Portugal spread across the slopes of the southern bank of the Minho River, which forms part of the Vinho Verde DOC denomination with a distinct microclimate. In 1982, the estate established its cellar and produced its first classic wine, which remains a symbol of its identity today. The focus of production rests entirely on the Alvarinho grape variety, featuring organically farmed vineyards and a diverse range of wine styles. Today, the enterprise continues to operate as a family business, collaborating closely with a community of over two hundred wine-growing families.
