About the estate
The FONTANA WALTER Az. Agr. estate is inextricably linked to the Valtellina region, where founder Walter Fontana frequented local cellars from the mid-last century and established the Società Impianti Bormio in 1966. His enduring passion was dedicated to the alpine viticulture of this valley, which is considered the most important mountainous wine-growing area in Italy and benefits from a unique microclimate nestled between the Rhaetian and Orobic Alps. Due to the steep slopes, cultivation is traditionally carried out entirely by hand. Today, the winery continues the mission outlined by its founder by promoting this singular territory and safeguarding its distinctive characteristics.
