About the estate
The Az. Vinicola Barone Di Villagrande estate cultivates vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna and looks back on a long history that began in 1727 with the conferment of the title of baron. In 1869, Paolo Nicolosi established a new winery and became the first to introduce separate vinification for white and red grapes, creating the precursor to today's Etna Bianco Superiore. The father of the current winemaker also played a decisive role in drafting the regulations for Etna DOC, Sicily's first controlled designation of origin. Today, the estate is managed by the family in the tenth generation, with Marco Nicolosi serving as oenologist and production director. Production includes wines from the Etna DOC and Sicilia DOC appellations.
