About the estate
The Sioner Klosterhof estate is a multi-generation family business run by the Burkhard family in the wine village of Mauchenheim in Rhenish Hesse, drawing its name from the historic Cistercian convent of Sion. The winery farms 20 hectares of vineyards located in the areas of Mauchenheim, Hangen-Weisheim, Gundersheim, and Alzey. The diverse soils, ranging from heavy loam to light loess-loam, allow for the cultivation of varieties well-suited to each site to produce a broad spectrum of wines. The vineyards are managed with a natural and ecologically responsible approach, including targeted yield reduction and careful harvesting. In the cellar, the wines are processed through open mash fermentation for reds, temperature-controlled fermentation for whites, and aging in barrique barrels depending on the style.
