About the estate
The Viñedos del Contino winery was established in 1973 as the first château in Rioja, with a history dating back to the 16th century. Spanning 55 hectares of vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, the estate cultivates parcels of old vines on terraces influenced by an Atlantic-Mediterranean climate. Winemaking takes place in a modern facility featuring small stainless steel tanks, concrete vats, and French oak vats, utilizing hand-harvested grapes processed on an individual plot basis. Agricultural practices incorporate sustainability measures such as biodiversity corridors and the ZERYA certification for residue-free grapes. Led by winemaker Jorge Navascués and vineyard manager Irene Bonilla, the team focuses on crafting artisanal wines that reflect their origin.
