About the estate
The Much Alfred family estate is located in Straning in the western Weinviertel region at the foothills of the Manhartsberg. Primary rock and loess soils provide the conditions for viticulture, with Grüner Veltliner serving as the main grape variety. In addition to this variety, the winery also produces Riesling, Chardonnay and Austrian red wines. The family history dates back to the 19th century when Michael Much introduced scions from Veltlin and bred the Much’sche Veltliner. An original vine of this variety planted in 1891 can still be seen on the farm.
