About the estate
The Erhard Mathier Vins estate has its roots in Salgesch, where Franz-Josef Mathier began vinifying grapes in 1950. In 1992, Erhard Mathier relocated the business to Sierre and took over the historic Cave Vieux Villa cellar dating back to 1867. The characteristic vaulted cellar with its wooden barrels that are over 100 years old forms the heart of the winery, where the red quality wines are aged. Since 2016, trained oenologist Tobias Mathier has been continuing the family tradition in the third generation. The estate focuses on natural vinification without chaptalization, careful management of the vines, and consistent hand-harvesting of the grapes.
The eno directory lists 29 wines, mostly from Pinot Noir and Humagne Rouge.
