About the estate
The history of the Caves Croft estate begins in 1588 when Henry Thompson established a wine business in York that later relocated to Portugal and specialized in Port wine. In 1889, the company acquired the renowned Quinta da Roêda in the Douro Valley, which remains the primary source for vintage Port. Following various ownership changes, including periods under Gilbey’s and Diageo, the estate was acquired by the Fladgate Partnership in 2001. Today, the winery continues its tradition with classic Port styles as well as innovative offerings such as rosé Port.
