About the estate
The Weingut Dr. Heigel estate, located in Zeil am Main in Lower Franconia, cultivates about ten hectares of vineyards in top sites such as Mainstockheimer Hofstück and Zeiler Mönchshang. Grape varieties including Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Merlot are grown on sandstone keuper and shell limestone soils. The origins of the estate date back to its founder Dr. Klaus-Peter Heigel, before the winery passed into new hands in 2018. The vineyards are farmed close to nature and in an environmentally friendly manner with year-round cover crops and reduced yields. Following selective harvesting, the wines mature either in stainless steel tanks or for up to 24 months in barrique barrels, depending on the desired character.
