About the estate

The Umathum estate in Frauenkirchen is primarily known for its authentic red wines produced from the traditional local varieties Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent, and Zweigelt. Josef Umathum also crafts white wines such as Pinot gris and Traminer alongside a rosé Saignée, while additionally engaging with new resistant varieties. Operations at the winery follow biological guidelines aligned with the rhythms of nature and the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. Only hand-harvested grapes are processed, and gentle maturation takes place in traditional wooden barrels. The wines are exported internationally.

The eno directory lists 21 wines, mostly from Blaufränkisch and Pinot Gris. The estate sells to retail. Export markets include Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom and France.
