About the estate

The PTE Szőlészeti és Borászati Kutatóintézet, established in 1949 from a church estate, operates today as part of the University of Pécs and serves as the intellectual center of viticulture in Southern Transdanubia. The estate maintains one of the largest grapevine collections and gene banks in the world to preserve genetic diversity. Research activities at the institute focus on grapevine breeding, genetics, cultivation technology, and winemaking. A key emphasis is placed on resistance breeding to support an environmentally conscious and sustainable wine sector. The wines of the estate are shaped by scientific work and reflect the traditions of the Pécs wine region.
