Hambledon Wine Estate

About the estate

Established in 1952 by Major-General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones, the Hambledon Wine Estate is located in the village of Hambledon in Hampshire and is England's oldest commercial vineyard. The estate covers over 200 acres of vines on gentle south and south-east facing hillsides within the South Downs National Park. The vineyards feature Newhaven Chalk soils, similar to those found in the Champagne region. The plantings consist of the classic grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, dedicated to the production of traditional-method sparkling wines. Vineyard management relies on hand-pruning and hand-harvesting, alongside emerging regenerative practices such as reduced soil disturbance and cover cropping.
