About the estate
The Wolkenberg estate was established on the rekultivated areas of the former Welzow/Wolkenberg open-cast mining site, where a six-hectare vineyard was planted in 2011. In cooperation with academic institutions, the vines grow in the sunny Lower Lusatia region on mineral soils of a barren terminal moraine. The grape variety portfolio includes Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Schönburger, Red Riesling, Rondo, and Cabernet Dorsa. The location is characterized by a stark terminal moraine featuring sand, gravel, and clay, which forces the vines to root deeply. This results in characterful and suspenseful wines from this exceptional site.
The eno directory lists 9 wines, mostly from Schönburger and Kernling. The estate sells to retail.
