About the estate
The Hofgut Battenberg estate is located in Battenberg in the Palatinate and looks back on a long history dating back to the construction of Battenberg Castle in 1240 by Friedrich III of Leiningen. In 1951, the Schraut family purchased the estate along with the associated castle, before management was handed over to son Julian in 2010. The conversion into a winery took place in 2010 and 2011, combined with the abandonment of the previous farmstead in Sausenheim. The estate cultivates a vineyard area of 18 hectares on exciting and varied soils. In addition to winemaking, the property comprises a historic hotel, gastronomy, and event spaces in the old castle vaults.
