About the estate
The Weingut Barzen estate is run by Sandra and Peter Barzen in the third generation in Reil on the Mosel, with winemaking in the family having been traced back for over 500 years. After a twenty-year break, the winery has been cultivating vineyards again in the Sorentberg since 2017, an extreme steep slope featuring red slate with shell influences. The family planted around 2,000 vines there in 2017 to harvest the first crop in 2020 after three dry summers. The Riesling wine produced from this site is shaped by the unique soil structure and was awarded a Golden Chamber Prize Coin by the Agricultural Chamber.
