About the estate
The Château Montlau estate is situated on a hill overlooking the Dordogne Valley and traces its origins back to Gallo-Roman times. The first vineyards were established in 1473, making it one of the oldest organized wine estates in the Bordeaux region. Since 1971, the property has been revitalized under the direction of Armand Schuster de Ballwil. The vineyard covers 20 hectares with clay-limestone and gravelly soils. Cultivated grape varieties include Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon, and Sauvignon Blanc, which are used to produce wines under the Bordeaux, Bordeaux supérieur, and Entre-deux-mers appellations.
